ShareOpps Privacy Policy

Effective from 30 June 2020

As concerns about the protection of personal information are increasing worldwide, it is important that we as ShareOpps continue to provide our site visitors with a comprehensive privacy policy.


1.    Personal information we collect
1.1.    This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from www.shareopps.com (the Site), ShareOpps-branded services or products, communications and premium services e.g. ShareOpps marketing and recruitment services. These will be termed 
1.2.    You acknowledge that your continued use of our Services after we publish or send a notice about our changes to this Privacy Policy means that the collection, use and sharing of your personal data is subject to the updated Privacy Policy, as of its effective date.
1.3.    When you visit our Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. 
1.4.    To create an account you need to provide data including your name, email address and a password which is encrypted. 
1.5.    We receive personal data (e.g., your job title and work email address) about you when you e the services of our customers and partners, such as societies, chapters, employers or prospective employers and applicant tracking systems providing us job application data.
1.6.    If you register for a premium Service (e.g. a marketing or recruitment package), you will need to provide payment (e.g., credit card) and billing information.
1.7.    We receive personal data (including contact information) about you when others import or sync their contacts or calendar with our Services, associate their contacts with Member profiles, scan and upload business cards, or send messages using our Services (including invites or connection requests).
1.8.    You have choices about the information on your profile, such as your education, work experience, skills and photo. 
1.9.    You don’t have to provide additional information on your profile; however, profile information helps you to get more from our Services, including helping recruiters and business opportunities find you. 
1.10.    It’s your choice whether to include sensitive information on your profile and to make that sensitive information public. Please do not post or add personal data to your profile that you would not want to be publicly available.
1.11.    Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. 
1.12.    We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”
1.13.    We collect Device Information using the following technologies:
1.13.1.    “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.
1.13.2.    “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
1.13.3.    “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.
1.14.    Additionally, when you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information including credit card numbers, email address, and phone number.  We refer to this information as “Order Information.”

2.    How do we use your personal information?
2.1.    Our registered users (“Members”) share their professional identities, engage with their network, exchange knowledge and professional insights, post and view relevant content, learn and develop skills, and find business and career opportunities. Content and data on some of our Services is viewable to non-members (“Visitors”).
2.2.    When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Order Information.
2.3.    We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations).  Additionally, we use this Order Information to:
2.3.1.    Communicate with you;
2.3.2.    Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
2.4.    When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.
2.5.    We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

3.    Sharing your personal information
3.1.    We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above.

3.3.    We may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

4.    Behavioural advertising
4.1.    As described above, we use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you.

5.    Do not track
5.1.    Please note that we do not alter our Site’s data collection and use practices when we see a Do Not Track signal from your browser.

6.    Your rights
6.1.    You have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted.

7.    Data retention
7.1.    When you place an order through the Site, we will maintain your Order Information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete this information.

8.    Changes
8.1. We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.

8.2. If you object to any changes, you may request to have your account and all its information deleted and closed at info@shareopps.co.za.

9.    PoPI (Protection of Personal  Information) Act

9.1. In-line with the PoPI Act we ensure that we will do our best to adhere to its requirements. 

9.2. The way we use, store and process your data is compliant with PoPIA.

9.2.1. Data transmission is encrypted.

9.2.2. ShareOpps staff and affiliates are educated in PoPIA.

9.2.3. ShareOpps will present all personal data upon request of said site member.

9.2.4. Access is secure and controlled.

9.2.6. ShareOpps ensures to utilise third-party software that is legally responsible for users' personal data storage.
